Food | Breakfast Shake

how-to-make-a-droolworthy-and-low-calorie-strawberry-smoothiejpg

This is perfect as a light breakfast or a snack. It contains fresh fruit, milk for your calcium intake, protein (nuts) and ground flax seed. It is both healthy and delicious.

Ingredients:

4 large strawberries

1 ½ bananas

½ cup strong coffee

½ cup milk

5 ice cubes

2 heaping teaspoons of honey

1 heaping teaspoon chocolate syrup (optional)

¼ cup walnuts

2 tablespoons of ground flax seed

Directions:

Blend all ingredients and enjoy! (This is not that sweet as it is mainly a healthy shake. To sweeten, add some sugar or honey).

This is a great recipe to try if you want to serve something different than your usual basic lettuce, tomato, cucumber  combo. It can also be a nice lunch as it is filling and healthy.

Ingredients:

3 ounces fresh mozzarella

2 large tomatoes

1/4 cup basil leaves

salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

extra virgin olive oil

1/2 teaspoon dry oregano

Directions:

On a serving plate, alternate thinly sliced tomatoes and mozzarella. Sprinkle basil leaves, salt and pepper on top. Drizzle with oil. If desired sprinkle oregano.

(The key to a good caprese salad is using the freshest ingredients and the highest quality olive oil you can find. Also, you can adapt the quantity of ingredients to match your taste)

Food | Grown Up Soda

google

One of my favorite drinks this summer is Gus’s Soda. Not to sweet and a little tart, they really are the perfect version of grown up soda. They are caffeine free, made from all natural ingredients and have only 90-98 calories per bottle. The Company’s website (www.drinkgus.com) also provides great cocktail recipes using their different sodas.

Please note, not all flavors are kosher so check each flavor before purchasing.
